Rules, controls and help for Ludo

Open Ludo, check the instructions and begin a round. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Read the objective before making your first input. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

A focus for your next round

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Refer to the controls when needed.

What counts as success

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. Keep the controls in easy reach.

The playing sequence

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Keyboard and screen controls

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Use the control method described here for this activity. A new-round button replaces the current round.

One way to understand the rules

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Keep the game’s format in mind.

Check this before moving on

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
