Sevens: from controls to your first round

The board gives you the information needed for the next action. Play every card to four suit sequences that expand outward from their sevens. Keep the goal in mind before your next move. A standard deck is dealt to four players, thirteen cards each. Try the rule on the board, then read the next instruction.

Four-player free Sevens with three local computer opponents. This table uses the seven-of-diamonds opening and low Aces.

Something to practise

The example and rules describe the same game you can play above. Extend the low end or high end of an open suit by one rank. Aces are low below twos; kings are the high end.

Your goal

Take a moment to check the current turn. Play every card to four suit sequences that expand outward from their sevens. Try the rule on the board, then read the next instruction.

The order of play

  1. A standard deck is dealt to four players, thirteen cards each.
  2. The holder of 7♦ must play it first. Other suits can open with their own seven.
  3. Extend the low end or high end of an open suit by one rank. Aces are low below twos; kings are the high end.
  4. Play a legal card whenever possible. Passing is allowed only when no card fits.
  5. The first player with an empty hand wins the round.

Input guidance

Use the controls beside the game rather than guessing the rules. Tap an enabled card from your hand. The suit rows show cards already played. Use Pass only when it is enabled. Keep the goal in mind before your next move.

Put the rules into context

After 7♥ is opened, 6♥ or 8♥ can be played. 5♥ must wait until 6♥ is on the table.

Where a round can go wrong

A matching rank in another suit does not extend an existing row. Every suit has its own sequence. Keep the goal in mind before your next move.

Questions that come up during play

What is the aim of Sevens?

Play every card to four suit sequences that expand outward from their sevens. Use the labelled controls for your next action.

How do the controls work?

Tap an enabled card from your hand. The suit rows show cards already played. Use Pass only when it is enabled. The game is played locally in your browser.

When I start, can you show an example?

After 7♥ is opened, 6♥ or 8♥ can be played. 5♥ must wait until 6♥ is on the table. A new round resets the current game.

Which mistake should I avoid?

A matching rank in another suit does not extend an existing row. Every suit has its own sequence. The worked example offers another way to follow the rule.

What rules and limits are used here?

Four-player free Sevens with three local computer opponents. This table uses the seven-of-diamonds opening and low Aces. You can start a new round from the game controls.

How many people can play here?

You vs 3 computers. This is local browser play, not internet matchmaking. Use the labelled controls for your next action.

On this page, why must 7♦ open?

This table uses the seven-of-diamonds opening variant. The instructions above use these same rules.

Can I hold back a playable card and pass?

No. A legal move is required whenever one is available. You can start a new round from the game controls.

When I start, where does an Ace go?

Below the two of its own suit. Aces do not follow kings at this table. A new round resets the current game.

When I start, how many opponents are there?

Three local computer opponents, all playing from their own hands and the visible table. The game is played locally in your browser.
